The " Bell to Bell No Cell Act" was signed into law by Governor Sanders in February of 2025. This new law will go into effect August 1, 2025. This law required public schools to implement policies prohibiting students from using personal electronic devices including, but not limited to, cell phones and smartwatches during the school day. This law will be in full effect for the 2025-2026 school year.
Key aspects of the law:
No Personal Devices - Students are prohibited from using cell phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and other personal electronic devices on school property during school hours.
School-issued Devices - These can still be used for educational purposes only.
Policy Adoption - Public and open enrollment charter schools must create and publish policies prohibiting the use of personal cell phone devices on campus.
Parent Communication -Parents should rely on school staff to communicate with students if necessary.
Less Student Distraction - The law aims to reduce distractions in the classroom and improve student focus on learning.
Expectations - If students bring the prohibited items to school, they will be expected to keep them turned off (completely powered down, NOT just in sleep mode) and put away (in a locker, their vehicle, backpack, etc.) for the ENTIRE school day - from the FIRST bell to the LAST.
Please begin preparing your students now for the changes ahead. Thank you for supporting a focused and distraction-free learning environment.
